February 1, 2006:
Did anyone else notice how immediately after the President's SOTUA how the media raved about his bold stance and brave worldview, rather than checking whether anything he said was true? Then after the Democrat's mild rebuttal, the media pounced on "is this all they can say?" Sure, I agree it was weak, but nobody really pays attention to the rebuttal - the night belongs to the President, and his speech was filled with more of what we have come to expect from this man.
As usual, the President was defensive about his policies, and resorted to name calling, referring to those who disagree with his policies as "isolationists", "defeatists" and other forms of nay-sayers. He used a cleaver tactic of stating his Imperialist point of view over several sentences, and ending with a pandering slogan towards the military, which of course, no one could be against. As par for the course, the President talked out of both sides of his mouth: calling for unity and bi-partisanship while calling detractors lazy, misguided and anti-American; he called for alternative fuel sources while he has been cutting finding and while his big-oil buddies are bathing in the green. He talked up programs and exploratory committees for programs that have failed in the past, but nowhere was there mention of how these would be funded when we are so badly in the red. He talked up Democracy, freedom (ad nauseum) and memorialized Coretta Scott King while he defended trampling on civil liberties by spying on Americans. Sickening... really.
Hopefully, more Americans are paying attention to the reports today where real journalists and bloggers are able to dig up the facts on the President's record and his empty promises. Check out these articles at Slate.com, Huffington Post, and AlterNet.
