July 25, 2006:
Chris Matthews was a phone-in guest on Imus in the Morning on MSNBC today, proving to be a better on-air pundit than show host. Imus was no match for the fast mouthed Matthews, barely able to get a word in edgewise. But what was most remarkable, was what Matthews said. He blasted the Bush administration for not having the intelligence or book smarts to understand the history of the Middle East, and are thus doomed to repeat it. He blasted Bush for having lost the ability to be an honest power broker in the Middle East by basically adopting Israel's policy as our own. He noted that the only way out of this situation was through elections, because this administration is not respected or trusted in the world.
Imus challenged Matthews when he said that the Connecticut primary election will be a referendum on the war, and that a vote for Leiberman will be a vote for the Bush Administration. Matthews correctly states that the only way to hold politicians accountable for their actions is to vote them out, and that if Leiberman loses, it will be viewed nationally as a blow to the Bush Doctrine.
If only Chris could be this good on his own show!
