June 14, 2006:
The Liberal bloggosphere has been reminded exactly who is in charge with the news that Karl Rove will not be indicted. Months and months of investigation, with every legal pundit betting on an indictment, and yet, Rove is off the hook. Kinda sounds like the exit poll data from 2004, doesn't it?
Many legal experts point to the repeated call-backs to allow Rove to correct his testimony as a courtesy that would never be afforded an average person. What the public learns from all this, is that people in power can do the wrong thing, and not suffer any consequences. We should remember that Rove was not indicted because the prosecutor could not prove intent of illegality, not because Rove did nothing wrong. See reports from the AP and from The Nation's David Corn for details.
And is anyone else disgusted by Israel's blatant lying and the attempt to blame the victim in regards to the seven Palestinians killed on the Gaza beach? I don't know what disgust me more: their false investigation which, with any scrutiny, falls apart; or the American Media's willingness to accept Israel's findings as fact. Yes, even that bastion of Liberalism CNN reported Israel's report as "end of story". If you look to Britain's Guardian News, The Independent, or to an interview on Democracy NOW, one would find that Israel admitted to shelling Gaza, out of six shells can account for five of them, with three of them hitting the Gaza beach. Common sense would tell you that the sixth "missing" shell hit that family. But nobody in the U.S. would want to upset the "only peaceful democracy in the Middle East", now, would we?
While I was in Israel, I was amazed on how systematically the Israeli government has tried to whitewash their past. I picked up a book about Christian Holy sites published by an Israeli publisher. Even in this Christian book, the publisher managed to include the Israeli whitewash of the 1948 military expulsion of Palestinians from their homes, listing it as "...after Palestinians abandoned the town in 1948..." Time and time again it is the policy of Israeli government to deny Palestinians basic rights as humans, to the point of convincing itself that Israel does nothing to provoke, degrade or harm these people. I've got 2 words for these people: Holocaust deniers.
