March 9, 2007:

Now that the dust is settling on the Scooter Libby case, isn't it amazing how the Right is trying to spin this conviction? Everything from claiming Libby did nothing wrong, to the typical Conservative tactic of blaming the victim, to (of course) somehow dragging Bill Clinton into this. Media Matters anticipated these tactics and posted rebuttals immediately. David Corn, who co-wrote "Hubris", the book about the leak investigation (an excellent read and insight to all the behind the scenes stuff that lead us into war) weighs in on the verdict.

But of course, the important thing to note to Conservatives who argue the verdict was that Libby was guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice, plain and simple. Conservatives who have such regard for rule of law should have no problem with this. All other arguments are not only beside the point, they are false. I can't tll you how many times I heard Hannity, Rush and others proclaim the same old lies over and over that Plame sent her husband to Niger, that Wilson was out to get the administration from the start, that Cheney was only correcting misinformation (like he has ANY positive record on that) and others. And the topper is they blame the Left (I assume this includes Republican Prosecutor Fitzgerald, who was appointed by the Republican Administration) for lying about the entire affair. I won't waste time rebutting each point; others around the web are doing it better than I could (here, here), but people need to know that Conservatives are just plain lying, and their fan base is believing it each step of the way.
