While I'm still waiting for Al Gore to throw his hat into the 2008 bid for the Presidency, watching the Republican debate last night still made me feel good about the Democratic playing field. I mean, with this list of candidates, what do we have to look for ward to? Judging by the responses to the questions in order of importance, a Republican Presidency in 2008 would yield:
• A constant invoking of Ronald Reagan's name, probably adding his face to Mt. Rushmore
• More war, specifically with Iran (and anyone else wants some)
• Fewer rights for woman's reproductive freedom
• Fewer "activist judges" (you mean like the ones who just upheld a ban on a procedure that does not take into account the life of the mother?)
• A greater deference to Christian Fundamentalist theology (no stem cell research, and no talk about evolution, but I hear leeches are making a comeback!)
• No more social, educational or possibly even military expansion, since they all seem to want to end all taxes and remove any income from the Federal Government.
Ah, Utopia...
On a side note, did anyone notice that due to a failed war strategy in Lebanon last summer, 200,000 Israelis rose in protest against Prime Minister Olmert calling for his resignation? Not that I side with this line of thinking in Israel, but if our most favored and bestest friend in the world can do this, why is it taking over four years of failed strategy here in America to even talk of changing course, and the word "Impeachment" is allegedly "off the table"?
